Take few seconds to think about your most epic adventures, the ones that are going to stay with you for a life time. Chances are, the one thing they all have in common is that at some point you were extremely uncomfortable. Those moments, my friends, are the important ones. Those are the moments that, instead of thinking about how you could get out of the situation, you had to look at yourself and ask the question, “How am I going to handle this?”. Those moments give you the chance to change yourself. They have the power to show you what you are capable of. The way you handle the most uncomfortable situations in life is a reflection of who you are.
We have so few moments in our everyday lives that are uncomfortable, its frighteningly easy to forget who you really are. Everything around us is designed to distract us from having to think about real life and all the uncomfortable things. Why do you think everyone walks around with their phone held up to their face all day? When we finally sit still with ourselves, without disctraction, without all of the ‘comforts’ that make life cushy and easy… what do we get? We get to find out who we are. We get to have the pleasure of experiencing what it is to be human and to honestly connect with ourselves and the places we so often forget to appreciate.
Life truly is an epic adventure, weather you’re topping out at 18,000 ft with the wind whipping in your face, or you’re finally deciding to sell everything you own and travel the world. Our lives can slide by so easily when we get lost in the comfort of what we know. We need to remember the importance of the uncomfortable, because without it, would never get the chance to take our lives into the unknown and discover who we really are.
